City Point - General Grant's Headquarters

We decided to start our morning at General Grant's headquarter next to the James River in City Point Virginia. Grant used this as his headquarters because he was able to move troops and supplies up the river as needed. Grant was located at this site for 10 months. Grant used this location to plan his siege of Petersburg. President Lincoln, Grant and other key leaders met to discuss reunification of the country. Near this site were field hospitals, a bakery that produced over 100,000 rations of bread each day, winter camp for the troops and for the leaders.

View of the river from the grounds.

All that is left from Grant's cabin that he lived in while at City Point.

Plaque that was outside the historical site.
