Lexington - Lee Chapel and Museum
At Lee Chapel, Ms. Edwards was not able to take pictures of the inside. As you enter through the door that you see in the picture above it appears that you are entering any church building. As you walk towards the front of the church though and walk up the stairs you see the the statue of Robert E. Lee laying out in front of you. Lee appears to be asleep laying under a blanket in his full uniform. The statue was created by Edward Valentine. The Lee family vault can be located downstairs. NO pictures are allowed though :(
Downstairs is also the office that Lee worked out of when he was the President of Washington (Washington and Lee) College. He served as President from October 2, 1865 until his death in 1870. The office looks just like it did the last time Lee spend time there. Inside the building is also a small museum to the life of Robert E. Lee.
His entire family is buried in the crypt with him. His old war friend, Traveller is buried near by as well. His horse is buried outside of the chapel and the grave is pictured below.
The Chapel is located on the campus of Washington and Lee University.
